Student Projects
Engaging
- Prediction Book and Time Capsule (Futures Past and Present)
- Students select artifacts from the present, research and write predictions for the future, and seal it all in a locker that will not be opened until they are 50 years old
Student directed
- Research in the Community
- Students choose issues they are interested in, define meaningful questions and use text-based and field research techniques to gather information to develop answers to present to the community
Innovative
- Utopian Classroom (Utopia/Dystopia)
- With the usual rules suspended, students work together to create a system to make decisions, run the classroom, and decide what to learn about utopian and dystopian literature
Real world
- City Planning
- Students come to understand real world social issues and their solutions by planning the redevelopment of Treasure Island
Ambitious
- Weather Balloon (Project Ikaros Intersession and Atmospheric Science Immersive)
- Students refine their understanding of the atmosphere by building, launching, tracking, and recovering a camera-equipped weather balloons to and from "near space"
